Pay-as-you-grow bandwidth capacity licensing
Unique, pay-as-you-grow bandwidth capacity licensing for the SN 9000 Intelligent Multiservice Switch adds to the list of Sycamore technology firsts. The SN 9000 introduces capacity-based bandwidth licensing in 80 Gbps, 160 Gbps, and 320 Gbps quantities, with a portion of the licensed bandwidth allocated to each service module (e.g., 5 Gbps per 8 x OC-3/STM-1 module, 10 Gbps per VXC-10). System software restricts the amount of usable high-order switching capacity, which means it can be upgraded in-service (from 80 to 160 Gbps, 80 to 320 Gbps, or 160 to 320 Gbps) as the network grows. Adding bandwidth is accomplished quickly and non-disruptively by obtaining a new license key from Sycamore customer service. The incremental increases enabled by bandwidth licensing substantially reduce initial deployment costs and provide a smooth path for network growth.
Unmatched bandwidth agility
SILVX® automation, scheduling, and resource partitioning capabilities make it easy to extend self-management options to internal or external end users – simply and securely. The Project Scheduler workflow management tool, fully integrated within SilvxManager, enables scheduled bandwidth, time-of-day bandwidth sharing, rate-adaptive services, and on-demand or event-driven services. Project Scheduler supports pre-provisioned or scheduled service activation or changes, with flexible one-time only or recurring options.
Compliance with the LCAS standard further enhances the incremental adjustments SILVX makes possible, permitting highly granular, scheduled bandwidth modifications for Ethernet transport and services. Advanced customer network management (CNM) capabilities, such as secure resource partitioning and customized permission profiling, allow application-specific service and access management that simplifies configuration of flexible rate or on-demand bandwidth, Ethernet services, and optical VPNs. Highly manageable service delivery options like these enhance user satisfaction and lower operational expenses.
