SN 9000 Intelligent Multiservice Switch
Exceptional Flexibility, Empowering Intelligence – and a New Approach to "Pay-as-You-Grow"
High-density, multiservice aggregation, any-service-to-any-port configuration flexibility, and a modular architecture – with industry-first pay-as-you-grow bandwidth capacity licensing – bring new efficiency and economy to evolving metro and regional core networks. Support for circuit and packet services and distributed, tiered grooming extend bandwidth optimization across multiple service layers and network segments. The SN 9000 minimizes initial deployment costs, substantially reduces operational cost and complexity, and supports just-in-time evolution and expansion.
Combining ADM and DCS functions with Ethernet Packet Intelligence, optical transport, and intelligent optical switching, in one compact platform, the SN 9000 lowers upfront costs by providing strictly non-blocking TDM switching, with the option to add Layer 2 switching (advanced data services) and/or low order switching (VT/VC). A versatile, service-enabling design – the ability to run any service on any port without having to change the facility interface – simplifies new service introduction and upgrades, and helps optimize node configurations.
The SN 9000's exceptional flexibility includes innovative bandwidth capacity licensing. Network operators can initially deploy 80, 160, or 320 Gbps, with each service module allocated a portion of the bandwidth. As the network grows, a new software license key allows non-disruptive, in-service upgrades from 80 to 160 Gbps, 80 to 320 Gbps, or 160 to 320 Gbps. Flexible, multiservice port configurations and in-service scalability enhance capacity utilization and service aggregation efficiency, and accelerate provisioning, to streamline operations.
ASON/GMPLS-compliant BroadLeaf® networking software, embedded across all Sycamore switching platforms and unified under a single SILVX® management view, empowers SN 16000, SN 9000, and SN 3000 switches to instantly provision, route, protect, restore, and manage end-to-end connections – and ensures seamless interoperability from edge to the core.
Applications
- High-speed bandwidth and mesh resiliency for fixed line and mobile optical backbones
- ADM, BB-DCS, WB-DCS alternative for high-density ring termination and multiservice traffic aggregation
- High-order and low-order switching, SONET/SDH international gateway function
- Scalable, multiservice interconnection solution for evolving mobile networks (RNC/BSC/MSC grooming and service demarc)
- Seamless circuit to packet migration and interoperability in converged TDM/IP and hybrid ring/mesh environments
- End-to-end intelligent bandwidth management, including support for MEF-based Ethernet Private Line (EPL) and Virtual Private Line (EVPL), other Ethernet and Layer 2 services, optical VPNs, and layered service provisioning
Building upon Sycamore's years of real-world deployment experience with advanced optical switching technology, and extending industry-leading flexibility and intelligence across the network, the SN 9000 empowers any mix of traditional, transitional, and next-generation services. Fixed line and mobile operators now have a practical way to maintain support for circuit services while adding Layer 2 and IP (packet) services; and simultaneously satisfy cost containment and network migration initiatives.
