OC-3/STM-1 Optical Module Set
|
Features
- T1/E1 Add/Drop on SONET Ring
- Port Concentration (Service Platform)
- DS0 and T1/E1 Level Grooming along with Test Access Interfaces
Introduction
The DNX OC-3/STM-1 module set consists of a front-mounted OC-3 application module and a rear-mounted OC-3 or STM-1 interface module that work in concert. These modules provide optical interfacing to the DNX family of products.
Capabilities and Features
An optically-equipped DNX enables service providers to position grooming and concentration functionality further out in the optical access network, on a platform that delivers high-density, cost-effective electrical interfaces in a protected fashion. The OC-3 and STM-1 module sets operate as Path Terminating Equipment (PTE).
Features of the module set include 3/1/0 switching within any DNX system, embedded link system clocking, and 1+1 and 1:1 Automatic Protection Switching (APS).
Benefits
In a terminal mux application, using OC-3 or STM-1 modules preserves valuable service platform ports. When an OC-3/STM-1-equipped DNX interfaces to Add/Drop Multiplexers (ADMs) or other SONET/SDH-compliant systems, a service provider can selectively add/drop DS1 traffic as required, while preserving ADM slots at the POP. When interfacing a voice/data service platform, rather than an ADM on a SONET/SDH ring, the core multiservice access concentration capabilities of the DNX are maximized.

ADM Application
The OC-3 module supports 155.52 Mbps operation with VT1.5 (T1) granularity and interfaces the equivalent of 84 T1s per module set. The STM-1 module similarly supports 155.52 Mbps operation with VC11(T1) and VC12(E1) granularity on an individual STM-0 payload basis. Cross-connections to other DNX module sets can be performed on a timeslot-by-timeslot DS0 or Clear T1/E1 basis.
Both modules utilize 1310nm Laser/Single Mode Fiber (SMF), are available with either intermediate (nominal 15 km) or long (nominal 40 km) reach laser options, and are equipped with SC interconnects. Alternative patch cord options are available.
