DNX Platforms in Mobile Operator Networks

Introduction

Mobile operators often have significant opportunities to benefit from traffic grooming and access concentration solutions. To do so, they need practical, cost-efficient ways to accommodate traffic growth, streamline provisioning of voice and data services, and move non-disruptively toward next-generation network architectures. DNX adds value in mobile networks, from the DNX-1u at cell sites to DNX-11/88 platforms with integrated circuit/packet processing at the BSC and MSC/SS7 locations. Low upfront cost, small footprint, and scalable architecture allow cost-effective integration today and ample room to expand in step with increasing data traffic on mobile backhaul links.

Highlights

  • Excellent scalability allows right-sized, cost-effective deployments from small cell sites to BSC and MSC locations
  • Traffic and port concentration saves expensive service switch port costs at the BSC and MSC
  • Optional circuit/packet integration merges IP/Ethernet traffic with circuit-based services (e.g., SS7/IP, SCADA/IP, EMS/NMS, Mobile Data) to support smooth network migration within a single network element (DNX-11/88)
  • Direct, flexible interfaces to SS7 infrastructure simplify SS7 traffic optimization while consolidating legacy equipment; circuit/packet integration resolves reliability, scalability, and jurisdictional issues to ensure non-disruptive migration from SS7 to Sigtran
  • DNX solutions efficiently converge DCN traffic from individual base stations onto a shared IP transport and combine multiple base stations for long-distance backhaul to the MTSO
  • Complete IP management visibility throughout the transport network saves operational time and expense
  • DNX-1u telemetry features give new visibility to previously unmanaged (or poorly managed) third-party equipment at cell sites
